【つたないオブジェクト】
使い勝手や合理性に迎合せず、意図的に違和感と遊びを織り込むことで、存在そのものが気づきを促すものを、私は「つたないオブジェクト」と名付ける。

これは、単に未完成な部分や粗さを残すことを目的としたものではない。整いすぎたものは、人の意識を素通りし、無自覚のうちに受け流されてしまう。一方、「つたないオブジェクト」は、空間に佇むことで、機能や意味にとどまらず、空気感や存在そのものを意識させる契機となる。そこには、無機質な物体の冷たさではなく、人の感覚に寄り添う余白がある。

例えば、街で外国人が「つたない」日本語で話しかけてきたとき、人は自然と耳を傾け、歩み寄ろうとする。つたなくとも伝えようとする姿勢が、共感や対話を生むからである。このような現象は、建築においても起こりうる。

「つたないオブジェクト」が空間に佇むことで、人と場所との関係をやわらかく変え、新たな関係性を生み出すことを目指している。

“Bold Objects”
Rather than conforming to usability or rationality, I name objects that deliberately weave in a sense of discomfort and play-fulness―prompting awareness simply through their existence―“Bold Object”*.

This is not about leaving things unfinished or intentionally rough. Overly refined objects tend to be unconsciously dismissed. In contrast, “Bold Object” stand in space, not just serving a function or conveying meaning, but creating an opportunity to perceive atmosphere and presence itself. They do not possess the cold sterility of lifeless objects; instead, they hold a space for human perception and engagement.

For example, when a foreigner ‘‘boldy’’ speaks to us in unsure Japanese on the street, we instinctively listen and lean in. Their effort to communicate, despite imperfections, fosters empathy and dialogue. The same phenomenon can occur in architecture.

By allowing “Bold Object” to exist within a space, I seek to gently shift the relationship between people and place, fostering new connections.

*Bold Object: The difference in the misalligning translation from “tsutanai” to bold in a direct translation, is intentional as to fully embody the intention of the objects – they are both “tsutanai” and bold.
